About Us
Swaledale Road Runners was formed in 1986 and has grown steadily in size. We have around 130 members. We are proud of our reputation for being a very friendly club and were delighted in 2004 when we were mentioned in Runners World magazine along with three other clubs as being one of the Most Beginner Friendly Clubs in the UK.
We welcome runners of all abilities and paces. Within our membership we have many members who regularly compete in endurance events from 5km through to Marathon distance on the road. We also have a growing number of members taking part in fell and trail races. In 2009 we were proud to have our first County vest awarded to one of our members when Erika Johnson was selected to run for Yorkshire at the Nottingham Half Marathon. We are also pleased to have Darran Bilton as a second claim member of the club. Darran has an impressive running CV and has had the honour of representing Great Britain several times in the marathon and his infectious enthusiasm and knowledge of running inspires many.
As well as catering for competitive runners we feel it is equally important to provide a supportive environment for those members who only wish to run for recreation, fitness and to enjoy the social aspect of our club.
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the Swaledale Outdoor Club, 17 New Road, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4QS. The clubhouse is usually open from 6.15pm and we commence running at 6.45pm.
On Wednesday evenings we meet at The Mencap Centre, Goosecroft Lane, Northallerton, DL6 1EG at 6pm for a 6.15pm run.
