Norman's fun run/walk

Twelve runners and four walkers had a very enjoyable Sunday morning at the end of January, courtesy of Norman and Angela Bell. The runners followed the usual 6 mile Paddy's Round across the Old Racecourse, through Coalsgarth Valley to the Masts before paying our respects at Paddy's Seat near Willance's Leap. We then ventured along the Coast to Coast route before returning via the Eco Village. Richard Smith deserves a special mention for running to the start from Whashton. The walkers took in a slightly shorter route before returning to Roots & Shoots where Angela and Amber served hot and cold drinks, soup and snacks to everyone. A great social time was had by all, with Norman able to catch up with members new and old. Many thanks to Norman and Angela for their wonderful hospitality.

Christmas meal

Thank you to Sara and her helpers for organising yet another successful Christmas do.   About 40 members went, an increase on the last few years. It was mainly runners at the meal , but efforts were made not to dominate the evening with running stories. I think the best things about the venue were that it was local, large enough to seat us all and that it had a relaxed but fun atmosphere.  The way the tables were  arranged meant that folk could mingle easily without impacting on other diners.  The menu was certainly extensive enough to cater for all needs and budgets, but  the staff struggled at times to get people's meals right and some tables had to wait longer than others. At the end of the night probably half the group went along to a local drinking hole for a night cap or two.  It was good to see so many members old and new with their partners enjoying themselves.   Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and injury free New Year to you all.  Jacqueline

Northallerton social evening

For those unable to make Richmond for the official Christmas meal, an informal, intimate gathering of 26 (!) took place at Hornby Walls, Little Smeaton, courtesy of temporarily absent members Alexina and Anthony (currently enjoying working in sunnier, warmer Mallorca with their family for a few months).

It was good that so many members braved icy roads and tracks to get to our BYO buffet & drinks.  The highlight of the evening went to our guest of honour, Norman Bell, for giving a potted history of the SRRs since the club’s inception over the past 20 years.  For those present last Friday and for newer members of SRR, it is worth noting that without Norman, SRR would probably not exist.  It was a great opportunity for some members to meet this living local legend and for others to be re-acquainted.
