Darlington 10K 2011

Six Swaledale members took part in the Darlington 10K on Sunday August 14th.

This is a previous PB course for me, so I was hoping to do well. The weather was good, although there was a short shower just after the start, which was actually quite refreshing. A two lap race with a few slight inclines but no real hills. A disappointing turn out from the club again with only 6 of us competing in a relatively local race. In previous years we have had as many as 19 representing SRR. Yared Hagos won in 30'06", a new course record. He is an Ethiopian, based in Newcastle, and has previously run for Bradford Airedale. Rosie Smith retained the women's title. Yours truly finished in 42'31", a bit slower than last year, so the post race analysis was particularly painful. Our other superb athletes (cheered on by men's captain John Wilson), completed the course as follows: Joanne Levy 42'36", Pete Devlin 48'27", Anne Atkinson 50'26" (a rare race appearance and well inside the target time I set for her), Richard Smith 50'48", Trevor Walker 54'49".
