Home News Race Reports Round Ripon Ultra

Round Ripon Ultra

On October 1st I went with Derek to Ripon for the Round Ripon Ultra. Upon entry we were given a map book with all the check points and an explanation of each section. At the briefing we were advised about safety, to have our mobiles switched on and informed of the extra water station.

So on the hottest day we started off from Studley Roger Hall and went through woodlands towards Mickley. Then I reached the first check point at Masham where I was glad of the refreshments. From this point onwards I knew it was going to be long and hard going so I ended up from mile 14 doing it with Lena. We took it in turns to read the map and we got round together as this was a first for both of us. Even the road sections were hard going and uphill so we saved our energy and walked the hills. The heat was taking its toll on people. In mile 22 I got severe muscle cramp but Lena told me what to do. Throughout this we kept each other going with tears of laughter and encouragement. There were some really boggy sections and tracks barely passable. Climbing over trees and styles hurt. Towards the end we were proud of the achievement. I would do it again. I made some good friends who now follow me on Twitter. I've got the taste for Ultra – bring it on!
