Great Westmorland Trail Race

On September 16th Jackie Keavney took part in the Great Westmorland Trail Race, a scenic 7+ mile marked route over rolling fell land on trails and footpaths. Jackie was 6th lady in a time of 1.02.48 and 50th overall in a field of 144 runners.

Jackie writes:  It gets a five start cake rating in the fell magazine, a must to do!  The route is about 7 and a half miles, the first section is a gradual uphill bit followed by a long downhill section along a valley.  There was a small short climb before the last decent down a long narrow path very similar to the one at the end of the Swaledale marathon, ahhh! Once out of there it was a short road section back to the village centre.  A very well organised race by the Howgill Harriers.  Afterwards you get unlimited drinks and a goody bag of cakes and sandwiches.  Both the men's and women's course records were broken by a couple of minutes.  I was 6th lady in a time of 1.02.48, three women in front of me were vet  40.
